Homemade French-Toast Bites

A simple family breakfast. Serves 6 and takes about 25 minutes.

Serves: 6   Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 slices sandwich bread (about 360 g)
  • 6 large eggs (about 300 g without shells)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (about 360 g)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (about 5 g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (about 5 g), optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (about 3 g)
  • Butter for the skillet (about 14 g)
  • 3 cups berries or sliced fruit (about 450 g), for serving
  • Maple syrup (about 60 g for 1/4 cup), optional

Directions

  1. Cut each slice of bread into 3 wide strips, or cook the slices whole and cut them afterward if that feels easier.
  2. Whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon, optional vanilla, and salt in a shallow bowl.
  3. Melt a little butter in a large skillet or on a griddle over medium heat. Dip the bread briefly in the egg mixture, letting the excess drip off.
  4. Cook in batches for about 2 minutes per side, until golden and the egg mixture is cooked through. Serve with fruit and optional maple syrup.
  5. To freeze extras, cool them completely, freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag. Reheat in the toaster oven or air fryer.
