Pentecost 2021

It’s been a little more than 5 weeks now since Miss 4 was born, so we have been taking it super easy around here. Nevertheless I couldn’t help but doing a few little things for Pentecost… I totally skipped Ascension, oops.

Back in March I preordered Laura Alary’s new book, Breathe. Today, Saturday before Pentecost, we finally got to read it! Another great book which we all enjoyed hearing. It even inspired Dad, who is a cradle Catholic (and spent years in Catholic school and as an alter boy)! It’s always surprising and exciting when he finds a new perspective on things he knows very well .

For my Mom handicraft, I made a felt dove to hang above our home alter/nature table. Still haven’t figured out how I am going to hang it, but we will get there. I think it came out super well, despite my lack of precision and hasty putting together. I used some scrap craft felt of rather low quality, and some polyfil. I wanted to use leftovers for my test run but in the future I’ll probably remake it with higher quality felt and wool batting. The template is from Sowing in Song.

The kids, inspired by my craft (love how that happens) made their own craft. Completely different, they made a Gifts of the Holy Spirit mobile from Catholic Icing. Cookie’s is pictured, Apple’s is about 50% finished which is usually how his things turn out… which is fine too. He says he’s not really into crafting but he does always want to do what the rest of us are doing, his interest wains quickly though unless it’s a project that involves building.

Lastly, Cookie was still inspired and Noodle came back in from hanging out with Grandma, so the two of them did a coloring page from coloring2print.com. They both enjoyed it to an age appropriate extend. Cookie had fun choosing different hair colors for the disciples (since “no one can be sure what hair color they had—except none of them probably had teal hair”) but she did choose to color Mary in traditional blue which she is always keen to recognize.
